Guide To Social Media Marketing for SMEs
The benefits of social media for small businesses are numerous, whether it’s helping to raise brand awareness or generate leads. However, to fully enjoy the benefits that social media platforms have to offer, your accounts must be up-to-date and active. To do this you have to regularly and consistently post content.
But how do you create compelling content that will encourage your followers to engage with your brand?
Before you start, ask yourself
Have I identified who my customers are in the digital space?
Do I know which platforms they like to spend their time on?
Am I doing all I can to reach this audience with interesting and relevant content?
If you answered ‘no’ to any of these questions, you could be missing out on some big opportunities.
You should have a fair idea of who your customers are from your day-to-day dealings with them, so let’s look at the four big social platforms to see if they’re there. 👇
New This Week (20 February 2023)
Many of us have seen people tweeting “Please RT my business, my next client might be on your timeline” on Twitter. Depending on your product or service, going ‘viral’ can be an effective way to generate buzz for your business, increase visibility and attract potential customers and clients.
But, it can be lethal if you are not careful. In truth, creating ‘viral’ content takes hard work, budget and a little bit of luck. For content to be found, loved and shared online, you need to have a strong, well-defined strategy in place.

Oftentimes, small business owners will create profiles on all social media platforms for their businesses and then end up struggling with the management, content creation, community engagement, or even worse, not yielding any results from the aforementioned efforts.
I am here to tell you that your business does not have to be on all social media platforms. The trick is to do research on the various platforms, understand your business and marketing strategy, and then decide which platforms will work best to help you achieve your objectives.
For example, if you are a make-up artist, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube would work best for your business because these are visual platforms which will allow you to display your expertise to an audience that is willing to learn. However, even with this said, if you are starting and cannot handle all three platforms, choose one and then gradually move on to other platforms. What’s worse than not being on all platforms is being on all platforms, but not active on all of them.
